What is a hip seat carrier and how does it work?
A hip seat carrier features a firm padded seat that clips securely around your waist. Your baby sits on the seat while you support them with one arm or attach the structured panel for hands-free carrying. Unlike a full structured carrier, a hip seat is designed for the frequent pick-up and put-down stage—making it ideal for active toddlers who want to alternate between walking and being carried.
What age can babies use a hip seat carrier?
Hip seat carriers are suitable from approximately 6 months, when babies have developed sufficient head and neck control to sit with support. The TatoHip Carrier is designed for babies and toddlers from 6 months through the toddler years.
Is a hip seat carrier ergonomic and safe for baby's hips?
Yes, when designed correctly. The TatoHip Carrier positions your baby in the M-position—knees higher than hips—in line with paediatric hip health guidelines. The wide padded waistband transfers baby's weight to your hips and core rather than your lower back and arms, reducing strain for parents during longer carries.
What is the difference between a hip seat carrier and a structured carrier?
A structured carrier like the TatoSnug Carrier wraps around both parent and baby and is best for longer hands-free carries from birth. A hip seat carrier like the TatoHip Carrier is designed for the active baby stage when your child wants to be carried some of the time but also wants to crawl / walk—fast pick-ups and set-downs without all the buckling.
Can I use a hip seat carrier for a newborn?
Hip seat carriers including the TatoHip are not designed for newborns, who require full head and neck support a hip seat alone cannot provide. Use a structured ergonomic carrier like the TatoSnug from birth, and introduce the TatoHip once your baby has strong head control, typically from 6 months.
Is a hip seat carrier comfortable to wear in Malaysia's heat?
Yes. The TatoHip uses breathable material suited to tropical climates, and the open hip seat design allows more air circulation between parent and baby compared to a full structured carrier.
How long does delivery take in Malaysia?
We deliver to all states in Malaysia. For Peninsular Malaysia, delivery typically takes 1–3 business days. For Sarawak, delivery takes just 1-3 business days — we have a warehouse in Kuching, so Sarawak customers receive their orders much faster than most baby brands can offer.
